Nov. 14th, 2013 09:51 amTwo more things, from the past 24 hours:
1. Elise's Girl Scout troop leaders sent home a notice, last night, that parents have to attend some kind of Cookie Booth Ettiquette training before they'll be allowed to man cookie booths. Everyone in her troop is a Daisy or Brownie, none of the other girls have done camp before, etc, so I explained to the leaders that my older daughter is a Junior and we've sold cookies several previous years, and did booths in 2011-12. DOESN'T MATTER. HAVE TO BE TRAINED. Her leaders are so nice in general, and she comes out of those meetings skipping and chattering with excitement about how much fun she had, just - I have too many things. And then:
2. I got an email this morning saying Isaac has an outstanding cheerleading balance for October and if I don't make that payment he'll have to sit out practice. I immediately replied saying I brought that payment in, and I still have the receipt - which I do. I just tuck them into my wallet when people write out receipts like that and tend to forget them until they pile up. She replied again asking if I can tell her who I gave the check to, and I told her I don't know the woman's name, it was someone in the front office that I see semi-regularly. I sent her a picture of the receipt in case she knows their signatures (it's initialed) or handwriting. This woman sends me back an email saying I'm going to have to come into the office with the receipt. SERIOUSLY? Like...seriously? I mean.
I just cannot stand the never ending Whirlwind Of Minutiae that kids' activities seem to necessarily entail.
Sidenote:
I'm also a little bit frustrated with just how many outside-of-class-time hours I'm expected to spend at FIU (working on group work with other students, seeing plays, listening to speakers, etc) as part of what I'm graded on. But, I expected some of that as par for the (haha...ha...) course and the semester will be over soon. I just see a LOT of "non traditional" students there - many of whom have fulltime jobs - and I wonder how often people really carve out their schedules according to their exact availability, and then can't earn an A :/ The truth is, as busy as I am, and "inflamed" as I am, I have a lot more flexibility than most 32 year old students would since I don't work, Grant is very supportive, my sister lives in town, and so on.
