The best part of my day was the park. It was cool and windy, and I just vegged on a bench crocheting something just for me, for once, while Isaac, Jake and Elise ran around playing. When it was time to go they ran off ahead as I got my stuff together, and then I found them at the water fountain. Isaac was on all fours, with Elise standing on his back drinking while Jake held the button down. They make me really happy.

There's a Porteugese woman who brings two foster kids to the park all the time. She only speaks Porteugese, while the children speak only Spanish and Creole, respectively. Through my broken spanish which is sort of almost like Porteugese, which I may not be spelling correctly, I have managed to ascertain that the kids are from South America and Haiti, and have mental deficiencies in the boy's case and some kind of terminal genetic condition in the girl's. The woman is a nurse who brings them to the park the same day we go. She likes what I crochet and can't believe I have five kids that are all mine. She really, really wants to know english. Somehow through a lot of gesturing and laughter we get a lot through. My kids and her charges share sand toys. It is a really fancy and gorgeous park in the middle of a very affluent neighborhood and we usually have it to ourselves. I don't normally like trying to make small talk in english, but somehow I am always glad to see this woman when she turns out to be there.

The best part of my night, after an epic solo dance party that left me with jello legs, was the bath. I keep telling Grant I need to devise some kind of waterproof cushions I can stick in that tub so I can get comfortable and go to sleep. You know, without drowning.

The best part of my weekend was playing Uno with Grant and Shaun last night. We laughed so much, for so long. I am really not sure what would happen if I drank but it would surely be ridiculous because I get pretty delirious naturally. Also, you would not believe how hard and often I kick their asses at Uno.

I feel like a bad person for bringing this up, but I keep thinking about it and I was just like, you know what? I'm gonna bring it up. So. My older kids have Harry Potter posters all over their room, and one wall has a shot of Tom Felton, aka Draco Malfoy, just as himself, the actor - and then also another picture of Draco Malfoy, in character like wearing wizard robes or something. And I was weirded out by how Draco is a semi-attractive kid, you can look at the picture and think, ok, he's gonna be hot one day. Tom is...not...in my opinion, which I admit is subjective. Anyway, I went and did a google image search one night after reading to them to see if it was just those particular shots and it is REALLY REALLY WEIRD how without fail, Draco looks great and Tom Felton...doesn't. To a degree that is disconcerting and beyond makeup or whatever. I mean, it IS THE SAME GUY, WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

Draco.

Draco.

TOM!

Draco.

TOM!

I guess Hogwarts really is *magic*...al collagen lip enhancement? Anyway. Ok. Grant thinks this guy is just not meant to smile. Some people look better snearing. Hopefully he never sees this post. Tom Felton, I'm sure you are a good person, and I have weird taste in guys and am an old married broad with weight to lose, so take heart! Smile and be happy!

What's hilarious is that Draco fanfiction...I mean, you know, so I hear, like this is what other people say about fanfiction about Draco Malfoy...it describes the character, like, oh these soft pink lips and this pale skin and these crazy eyelashes and basically they play up everything about the character's aesthetics that the actor apparently...somehow...isn't?

I think I need to stop talking about this.

Nancy emailed me this picture that she took of Ananda, while they drove alone in her car.

I need to make myself a new purse. The one I've been using forever is getting ripped and stained and just, generally, no longer acceptable. I have this whole vision for patchwork and even got some supplemental fabrics last time I was at Kristin's; I just need to get in there with the sewing machine and make it happen.

I also have several things I need to list on eBay to fund important things like more trips to Lush. If anyone is interested in some still brand new (aside from sitting in my closet for a year) red Doc Marten boots with black laces, for instance, or a used forest green Balenciaga bag I found at Goodwill, please do let me know. I also have a vomitous (but pristine!) Hello Kitty bag with little dangly Hello Kitty...things...on it, that appears new. It would be great to not have to deal with setting up auctions. Maybe I'll post pictures here first. The boots are a women's size 10, men's 8, and definitely Unisex in design. Standard high calf Dr. Marten combat boots.

And I think tomorrow is going to be a highly interactive school day, rife with Right Start Math, Story of the World history, and group e-searching of various scientific questions I've recently been asked. I am going to be delusional and pretend I won't have Elise taking up all my space in the bed and pestering me for milk within 10 minutes of going to lay down.

proof that a good haircut and make-up can make a LOT of difference! I love that all the kid actors from HP have stayed out of tabloids and seem generally sensible and happy.

Agreed, about your first bit - also, I think that he looked better young and isn't growing up to be what the casting people assumed, because if you pay attention most Draco pics also seem to cap at what looks like about a 15 year old, whereas Tom Felton is actually like 22 now.

It's all in the attitude, I think. Draco Malfoy wants to join the Dark Lord and destroy Harry Potter. Tom Felton loves fly fishing.

What about this photo, though? http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3162345216/nm0271657 Not bad!

TOM FELTON IS A HUFFLEPUFF! ALL HAS BEEN SOLVED.

I think eruv is right and that picture you linked is really weird.
From: [identity profile] shechinah-el.livejournal.com
It's weird because it doesn't really look like him, but it's also hot because it doesn't look like him.

Tom as a Hufflepuff! He can join me. I'm probably a Hufflepuff.

I had no understanding of what you meant until I saw pictures of the two "side by side" and OMG, you are so right. OMG. I need to go take a brain cleanse or something.

Thank you for understanding. It is really as though we are looking at two different guys.

he's ugly! and Im not attracted to blonds ick.

how tall are the boots? I think I want them.

Yeah I'm not usually a blonds kind of chick either.

The boots are like...mid calf? I think they're 10" boots. The thing is, I have calves of doom, and I bought these for myself for my 27th birthday (for $110) and was all psyched and then...well...my legs are too fat for them. Like, GAPS BETWEEN THE TONGUE AND THE SIDES OF THE BOOT. *sigh* Anyway I am just warning you about that, I know nothing of your lower legs. I really have enormous legs, though, like all of my weight is there and I usually just feel grateful that I can hide it in a pair of jeans and still look cute in my tank top.

hhhmmmm I think my calves might have that same problem. :(

Namedropping alert!

I met Tom Felton at a sci fi convention and he is MUCH better looking in real life than his photos as Not Draco do him justice. He has a gorgeous smile.

women's size 10 doc martens, you say?

I am definitely definitely interested, if no one else has replied yet. How many holes are they?

My calves are somewhat big, but I used to have boots that came almost to the knee and they fit fine...so I have a history of fitting well into Doc Martens.

also, it seems like his face just requires makeup. His skin is a bit marked and wrinkly and it makes him look OLD. That or the fact that smiling just doesn't do it for him. either way.

14 holes, on each side of each boot (I realized I don't remember how they count them :p). I'm not really sure what to charge to be honest, I was thinking $70 which seemed fair and in line with what new pairs are going for on ebay. How does that sound to you?

Date: 2010-03-17 08:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] failstoexist.livejournal.com
That sounds fair to me! Including shipping? I'm in MA, if it matters.

I've been to your area in the spring (and am actually going back in April)--I can't imagine what time of year it would be cool enough there to want to wear 14 hole Doc Martens. I know, you guys are used to it...but here in New England the seasons are just totally different! Thanks for the awesome deal. I was about to go buy myself a new pair anyway, so that's a good price for me.

I was just looking around, and I think I underestimated the sort of logistics shipping is going to be. It looks like I'm going to have to buy a box and then pay like $15 minimum by weight, possibly more (I'm really bad at calculating weight). Would you be ok with adding on $10 to offset shipping and I'll eat the rest? I am also ok with local pick up, I suppose, if you want to do that and are going to be down here next month. Either way you can paypal me at altarflame@yahoo and assuming you want them shipped I will try to get them out immediately.

As for the weather, yeah, my brother ONLY WEARS steel toed combat boots, like, as a way of life, and always with humongously baggy "goth pants". I remember attending middle school in outrageously layered clothes. It IS kind of ridiculous, now, when I think about how hot it is. At the time I don't think that mattered at all :p

Date: 2010-03-18 09:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] failstoexist.livejournal.com
That sounds OK to me, I suppose. let me know if it's a ton extra and we'll try to arrange a local pickup...I'm going to Ft. Lauderdale April 16th-22nd so we can probably figure something out. My family is going together, but we'll have a rental car and such. I don't want you to have to eat too much of the shipping cost. But if it works better for you, I can wait the month until I come down. Just let me know. :)

Last year I got off the plane and it was stifling hot at 11pm. Just brutal. And the people who actually live there were in sweatshirts...because it was night time and cold, of course! But you get used to what you get, I suppose.

Date: 2010-03-19 03:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] altarflame.livejournal.com
Go ahead and pp with shipping, if I go and find out it's some CRAZY amount I'll refund you and we can talk about local pickup. But hopefully it will just be about what I'm thinking, which is ok :)

Anyway, yeah, pretty much everyone I know thinks it's a bit cold at night in the 70s and that you can get away with wearing a fashionable jacket at night in the 80s. The big thing that brutalizes people, though, is the humidity - which can be really intense if you're used to more dry weather.

I felt like I was going to die everyday in MA. Seriously.

From: [identity profile] failstoexist.livejournal.com
OK, I sent it today...had to set up a paypal account. haven't used it in years!

New England can be brutal. Or it can be 70 and sunny in March, and you can go to the beach and get a tan...which is what yesterday was like! It's totally unpredictable. I have fantasies about moving down to Florida sometimes, where it's warm and gorgeous and all that. But the hurricanes and the humidity make me think twice. I think it's great for vacation...but getting up and going to work instead of getting up and jumping into a pool would probably be the last thing I'd want to do every day!

I shipped your boots via UPS today, and will get you the tracking number shortly. Sorry for the delay, it is completely my own busy fault and I hope it hasn't been too irritating. They're supposed to get to you on Tuesday. And it wasn't too bad, with the box it came to $16 total so that is way better than the post office, where it would have been like THIRTY DOLLARS O_O

Date: 2010-03-25 09:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] failstoexist.livejournal.com
awesome. you're the best.

don't even worry about the delay---I was just worried you might not have gotten the money. But I'm neurotic about paypal stuff like that.

Sometimes I wonder what the post office is thinking...Oh, no one sends mail because they send email. let's RAISE postage....oh, now less people are sending mail. let's raise postage again! I mean, I know why they do it...but do they really think it's not going to drive more and more people to other methods of communication? Glad it wasn't too much for you...it would ruin the point of selling things!

That whole Draco/Tom business made me cackle.

So yeah, what's up with the Balenciaga? Can you post a pic?
