I was up until 4 or so last night, researching agents.
How to get one.
Who is looking for what type of material.
Submission requirements.
Standard contracts.
I was almost vibrating with how real it all seems. I told Grant, I can easily imagine querying 30 different people and getting all rejections.
But, I can also imagine 4 accepting me and getting to choose.
Today was an incredibly productive, positive day. A Grant at work day. I...
-cooked eggs on toast, turkey bacon and sliced kiwi, for breakfast.
-pasta puttanesca for lunch
-italian soup and cheddar garlic biscuits for dinner
-ate, talked, prayed with all of my kids for all of those meals
-counted points and divvied things out accordingly (ww)
-loaded the dishwasher 3 times
-had a risque phone conversation with Grant (bom chicka wah wah)
-cleaned out the whole long flower bed that runs the length of our deck (overdue)
-transplanted the small gardenia shrublet I have into a bigger pot
-moved all the new soil from the van to the garden area
-put together our new composter (and loaded it up with all the weeds from the flowerbed...)
-changed diapers
-talked to Dama on the phone
-entertained Laura and Brian, who made it over to see our chicks
-oversaw tons of chores and animal care
-cleaned
-got Elise down for a nap
-orchestrated multiple bubble baths and a movie viewing
And spent at least an hour out in the side yard, with the bunnies in their pen in the grass and the chicks roaming around free with us.
Aaron's, "Hoppy Israel Walker", is the squirrel colored one. She is shy, smaller, and generally in the background.

Shadow is FULL of personality...she has more attitude and individuality than I really thought possible in a rabbit, and I've actually gotten kind of attached to her.

CHICKS!! They are 8 days old today. The tiny wing feathers and infitesimal tails are new.

That is Madame Mim and Archimedes.
The two identically positioned ones here are interchangeable in general. That will most likely change. For now, collectively, they are Dorothy and Auntie Em.

Ananda thinks Archimedes belongs to her.

Improvised garden, so far. I'm putting tomatoes that need staking in the huge buckets (I drilled holes in them, and the sandbox the peppers are in) and herbs in the smaller containers.

The garden is in the backyard, which is privacy fenced and bigger. The sideyard has a short fence and is still good sized, but smaller. We've basically made the backyard the grown up yard, with the shed, firepit and garden - the composter is there, too, and the chicken coop is going there. Then the side yard has the trampoline, airplane teeter totter thing, playhouse, mango tree. It is the kid yard. The deck opens onto both yards with separate gates. Then we have this little narrow thing we call the alley, running down the other side of the house, where the garbage cans and recyling are - much of it is paved and there's a door out to there from the laundry room. It connects to the backyard. It's really different, as it's separated from our neighbors' property by a chain link fence and her intense cultivated flowers and ferns and things. But still private, since they keep their windows on that side shuttered and our houses are only like...I don't know, 12 feet apart with the fence in between. They hang out in their (massive, insane) backyard, which has WINDING PATHS and all kinds of crazy crap. She hosts orchid parties. We're planning that alley - our side of it - some sort of ambient cool place with, like, a table and chairs and some fairy lights or something. Somewhere you can take a laptop and not be bothered.

Covered in freckles and (basically) pushing 30.

Crazy stuff!
At what point in a suburban neighborhood do you get to say you have a farm?
