Things I Did This Weekend
Mar. 9th, 2015 03:22 am-Made fabulous alfredo sauce from scratch, and poured it over linguini, sauteed mushrooms and steamed asparagus, for Annie's requested "last meal" before oral surgery* the following morning.
-Crocheted 6 more granny squares, whenever I was in a waiting room or what have you. I'm using a rusty burnt orange and a cream colored yarn, in a bunch of different configurations - Grant is putting together a series of diagrams of different patterns they could be arranged in, on the computer. "With our powers combined..." *poof* blanket appears
-Made multiple batches of instant mashed potatoes, some kickass homemade applesauce, and distributed lots of meds, for Annie. She was pretty hilarious once she woke up fully from sedation and started an hour of irrational rambling.
-Had amazing therapeutic holy shit sex, and also pretty good, maintenance sex. Extremely overdue. I am relieved to have hickies.
-Introduced my mother to Cards Against Humanity (hilarity ensued).
-Had an extended drowzy family cuddle pile that ended in some of us being asleep for the night.
-Caught up with my sister on the phone while driving Isaac to/from GMYS ("clarinet class").
-Did a long Legal Psych quiz and a short legal psych discussion post (online).
-Went in an Asian Culture Festival, with Grant, got disappointed and then rained out, and left glad we hadn't paid to get in. I don't know if we snuck in or they'd just stopped accepting admission fees, but we just walked in and there was nowhere to pay.
-Rewatched Hannibal, with Grant, and Ananda (who was seeing it for the first time). She and I just watched The Silence of the Lambs last week. She's been obsessed with horror for a couple of years now but has previously mostly been limited to PG/PG-13 type movies.
-Found out a cousin is having her first baby! She and her twin sister are 5 years older than me and have both been childless, and it seems like huge news. Me and Laura were "the babies" in our generation on my Dad's side but somehow the two of us have 8 kids now - my aunt DeeDee (who is my Dad's older sister) has got three daughters in their late 30s but only 1 born grandchild. "The babies" had all the babies.
-Little nonsense - I washed dishes, watered plants, watched cat videos with Jake and Isaac, texted with Kristin.
This was a reeeeeally low key weekend for us. Annie couldn't do any of her normal weekend activities, derby was rained out, Isaac's clarinet mentoring was cancelled...
*A lot of people have asked, so - Annie had to have oral surgery because her adult canines are super impacted, way up in the roof of her mouth. They're pressing sideways, inward, towards the roots of her adult front teeth, which they would eventually start to erode if left unchecked. She got the baby canines pulled like a year and a half ago and has had braces making the gaps for the adult canines bigger, but they aren't turning on their own to come down. The surgery kind of blows my mind, honestly, and I got a second opinion and did some research when they first told me what they wanted to do - basically they went up through the bottom of her gums and installed brackets on the impacted teeth where they are, under the gum tissue. Those brackets are attached to chains that come down and connect to her braces. They gradually shorten the chains, to pull the impacted teeth down. The brackets and chains are gold, because that's what doesn't inflame and irritate the inside of the gums. HOW NUTS IS THAT? It only took about an hour, most of which was spent drying the cement that holds the brackets on, since it's really wet in there and thus hard to do that. She had twilight anesthesia with her first IV (which was the only part of the whole thing that she was freaking out about - having an IV). Everything went perfectly and she has dissolving stitches and tylenol 3 now. Her surgeon was a really nice guy and someone her dentist loves and orthodontist recommends. This kids mouth and our bank account; it's quite a sweeping saga.
