I had such a good time hanging out with Isaac today and this evening. It's the first time, I think, that I really felt we WERE "hanging out", like in the way that Ananda and I do. He came up to my chair and signed food while saying "Eat, eat", so we went in the kitchen, and I asked if he'd like an apple. He said "PEESE!" in that scrunched up nose grin way of his :) So I sat there telling him how I was peeling it, and cutting it, and he was totally patient and said Thank You when I handed it to him. I told him I was going to start dinner, and needed some chicken from the fridge - I asked if he could say "chicken", and he did, and laughed when I clapped, as he ate his apple slices. I opened the dishwasher and steam came out and he said "Hot". After I explained that I needed a lid for a pan and got one from a low cabinet, and turned to stir something, I felt him putting something on my hip, and when I looked, it was another lid! He was looking really hopeful like he was trying to help. It was so damn sweet. Then things started sizzling, and he said "See! See!" so I picked him up to look. He gives me hugs now, too. Like puts both little arms around me as I'm holding him, and shimmies his little butt down to where he can lay his head on my chest, and squeezes me :) He asked for "wawa" when he got thirsty and "Seat!" when the food was done, so he could sit in his seat to eat. I told him I was going to take off his diaper cover while he ate, so it wouldn't get food on it, and he said "Diaper" and started pulling it down himself. I think of several new things I could add to his word list every day lately :) He was just so generally pleasant and interested in what was going on. Earlier as I was moving room to room cleaning he was hanging out with me, too, and I would stop to read him books or let him help me carry some laundry. He's wonderful. I was nursing him before bed, and stopped to ask "Are you ready to go brush your teeth now?" He popped off long enough to say "More milk" and I said ok, but soon we'll brush your teeth. And a couple of minutes later when I asked again, he said "Tee, tee" and pointed to his teeth, and off to teeth he went with a cheerful "No more". :::sigh of toddler bliss:::

I'm glad I didn't accept any offers when I put him up for sale a couple of weeks ago o_O

Isaac fell asleep on the way there...

When he got out he was happy to put on his "shows" and really fascinated by the wawa...I was turning to say "Are you taking pictures of us?"

And the wildlife...

Grant set up the tripod for this one...I think I'm smiling really weird here, and I think that it's hilarious that I'm in the exact stance I was in in the other pic of me here, too...

And look at these...

Last but not least, just for good measure, from the other night...

Do you think I'll be able to fit a 4th child in there? o_O

OMG EYES!
So cute.

Tempest is entering that "Word a day" stage now, just in the last two weeks or so. Yesterday she said please twice and said "Ambuh" today when we were talking to her... She's said as many two-word phrases as she has one-word, and they're clear enough that other people can understand them: it's like she could talk this whole time and just didn't.

His eyes amaze me, too. And they're even more out of left field than his hair is! Grant and I both have some blue eyes in our extended family, but neither of us have them.

We were talking about how him and Tempest need to hook up, because we don't know of any other little girl who'd be able to keep up with him. Much less keep him in check ;) We look at the pictures of T that you post and it's like...Yeah, she could handle him.

Nobody has EVER told me that before, about Isaac. Seriously. When I go out with him I assume people think I'm the babysitter. Do you know how crazy it is to grow up cuban and then have a baby with red hair? Like, whoa, I've never bought sunscreen in my life and I now I have to take it with me everywhere.

There are features here or there I can sort of pick out, but overall? He is Grant's kid, I was the vessel :P

its opposite with marin and i...im a redhead, and she is so dark skinned and haired and eyed...but she has my features, so people say she looks exactly like me with opposite coloring...i thought you and isaac were the same way, but struck and reversed...:)

marin is so dark ive had people insist she is half african american...even when i was like...no, her dad's italian...i like it tho, makes me feel safer from the sun conditions here, in a sense since i am so fair.

your children and family are lovely.

Thank you :)

I can understand that, about the sun. It's SO frustrating with Isaac, he gets sunburned in partial shade, or in just an hour, or what have you. There have been several times where he shocked me by turning pink in conditions or time frames I thought it was just impossible. We've just learned to keep sunscreen in the glove compartment and the diaper bag at all times.

I've theorized that he is nocturnal as a survival instinct :P

Oh, and isn't it funny how someone could try to insist to you that your child is or isn't some ethnicity based on, you know, their assumptions as strangers? I get SO MUCH "where'd the red hair come from?", and it's like people are so eager to hear "The mailman" that they don't even listen to stuff about recessive genes.

I don't like the fake smiles on the kids' faces. I normally jump around behind the camera to make the kids really smile and/or laugh, but obviously I couldn't do that this time. The only thing I could think of while the timer was going is to imagine the camera as a giant duck. Maybe next time.

I normally hate fake smiles, too, but I like the way that shot of them turned out. The way they're dressed, the way they're standing, the looks on their faces, all of it. It's not like my favorite shot ever, but I like it.

Thank you :)

That first bug is a poisonous caterpillar, so you should have the crawlies :P He was moving SO FAST, too, I've never seen a worm type thing go like that.

Grant took pictures of me last night that I actually LIKE. I honestly don't think that I've ever seen pictures of myself that look like me before. Ever. He had these giant lights he borrowed from someone and set them up with dropcloths and crap, and was taking pictures of like colored pencils and lemons and whatever, to get the hang of it, and then he asked me to come sit down and I did just for laughs. Because we all know that even on my best days, the pictures are pretty terrible. So it was really a surprise to get good ones.
