I have a cousin who recently went this route. It's SO hot, and humid, that we would need insulation and AC, at least if I didn't want a computer for writing to overheat, or didn't want my yarn/fabric to be full of mildew very quickly. It would also just be very stifling, without it... opening up a car mid-afternoon here is not a pleasant experience! Also, bugs.
Grant actually has a barely-used wood shed in the backyard, with a wall-unit AC that we only turn on if he's going to be working in it. But it's crammed with various sharp and dangerous things, and completely coated in sawdust inside.
I think having my own dedicated computer that I never let anyone use would be a huge step in the right direction, honestly. I'm trying to strategize. When we moved into this house, one room was supposed to be my "office," for writing but also crafts. It was pretty epic, I painted and decorated and had it all set up with a futon to double as a guest bedroom when needed. But then my brother needed a place to stay, and we gave him that room (for 2 years), and when he moved out it was very obvious that the kids had grown and changed, and needed to be shuffled. When we'd moved in, Elise was still a baby sharing our room, and then she moved up to a weird big storage closet off of a hallway that we customized for her, that her toddler bed and meager belongings fit in perfectly, but that was clearly not going to last forever. "My office" has been Isaac's room, basically ever since Bob moved out. That big weird closet I mentioned is Grant's tech storage now - rather than having hard drives and wires and cables and monitors and bizarre little shit I don't even understand ALL OVER THE HOUSE, as it used to be... it's all in there.
I feel as though it's more likely my solution lies in time management and/or perspective shifts, rather than logistical changes. But maybe not.
