I actually made a page about this once upon a time, since I get asked a lot! http://www.altarflame.com/index.php/homeschool I hope that answers your question...
I do not keep up with housework. My house is always a disaster, too. Something that helps tremendously is that all of my kids have consistently enforced chores...Ananda has to clear, clean and dry the dining table, clear and scrub the kids' bathroom sinks and vanity and put away clean dishes every morning. Aaron has to run laundry through the washer and dryer, feed and water his bird and the cats and take out the compost every morning. Isaac has to clean up whatever all is cluttered around on the floor in the tv room and library and get any dishes and toys in off the deck and out of the yard, every morning, and Jake has to get everything off the floors in the bathrooms, get any trash/food from the deck/yards and bring in the mail. Elise has to clean up anything that's been dropped in the hallway and feed and water the ferrets. They all alternate taking out the cat litter boxes and changing the ferret cage (Aaron does his bird's cage tray and grate), and the trash. I order them into their rooms to clean approximately every other day (that has went WAY better since we moved the bedrooms around). I do not hesitate to offer small amounts of money for extra cleaning jobs - Ananda frequently sorts and puts away laundry or reshelves all the library books for a dollar, Aaron frequently vaccums all the rugs and mats for a dollar, and Isaac will frequently sort through and take care of my sweep pile for .50. Everyone has to pitch in for basically a whole day of nothing but cleaning prior to us having guests or a party.
