I wouldn't bring him along on errands - I don't ask him to come when I'm driving someone to dance class or going grocery shopping! I mean when we go to a big outdoor showing of a movie with lawn chairs, or to roast hot dogs on a fire in the everglades for dinner. "Getting out of the house and doing things" things, which I don't think, say, the post office really counts for.

Although beyond a certain point, now that I think about it, it could be useful to do standard homeschool teaching stuff with him at the post office or grocery store because he is really missing a lot of basic life knowledge...

As an interesting aside, you would not believe how much he instigates board games, football in the yard, hide and seek indoors at night, etc with my kids. He is very obviously dissapointed whenever they don't want to play with him. It really reminds me of how it was for me when I was a high school nanny recapturing my childhood through all the stuff I did with the kids I worked with. And, my brother is really insecure and EXTREMELY intimidated by his peer group but loves feeling competant and helpful and like a leader with younger kids.
