I used to think I hated nicknames, before I had kids, but in practice I probably call Jacob a dozen different things on any given day...none of which are Jacob. I also really like being able to deliberately say "Ananda", rather than just "Annie", sometimes, and HAVING Annie to say to strangers who will inevitably ask, "Amanda?" when they hear her name, otherwise...
I think Ambriel is lovely, too. It has this weight about it - I can easily imagine it as something very timeless and cross-cultural.
