Kristin's 30th birthday party was last night - I had a lot of fun. She did it so well, having kids and knowing everyone coming would have kids but still wanting an adult party. Basically there was music loud enough to dance to but not traumatize Aaron, outside on their large patio by the pool, and a designated dance floor area. There was a big bar outside that had plenty of jugs of organic juice right along with alcohol, and water as well. As well as a continuous slideshow of pictures of Kristin's wedding, family, etc. Inside the lights were dimmed, doors to off limits rooms were shut, and Cars was on - so there were always a couple of nursing moms on the couches and a bunch of kids wrestling, sitting and watching, or whatever, on the large rug with cushions everywhere. It was potluck and we brought (my) homemade spinach and artichoke dip with thin sliced italian bread, and (Grant's) homemade guacamole with blue corn chips, as well as a bottle of Schnebly's wine and a big bottle of cranberry pomegranate juice. I also made Kristin (who is a fairy freak enthusiast) a "midnight fairy" that I wish I'd gotten a picture of, for her gift, and wrapped it in a cooresponding blue fleece I had leftover from making Jake's Christmas stocking.

Highlights include;

-Seeing all these great women from La Leche League that I haven't seen in forever, since the meetings conflict with PATH. I could talk the night away in a crowd like that - from Kristin's mohawk'd brother and EXTEMELY tattooed best female friend, to the mother who's just arrived from Kenya and brought her quad-lingual 8 year old Kenyan daughter with her, and the older woman from Aruba...it's just great.
-Having so much healthy food out and available - I've never seen so much fruit salad and so many varieties of hummus ;) Buncha hippies. There were also chicken tenderloins and pizzas around.
-Handing the kids what I assumed was cornbread someone had brought, and having them all LOVE IT and beg for more until they'd eaten 3-4 each...and then seeing someone get out frosting to set by them because they were really yellow cupcakes :P
-When Grant requested Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" of the dj and the dancing picked up a lot.
-When I mentioned thinking about having my baby at The Farm and the woman I was talking to said, "Oh, my friend just went up to Tennessee and did that, I'll have to have her call you".
-Line dancing with Jake on my hip and my giant belly in front of me. He really liked it.
-When Jake was walking around, and someone squatted and put their arms out to him, and he BOLTED towards them and let them hold him for awhile O_o
-When, after we all sang "Happy Birthday", Darian (Kristin's 4 year old son) ran for the karaoke mike and sang her Happy Birthday himself. I teared up, and I think she stopped him before she was balling.
-Watching Grant struggle to crawl "like a horse" across the living room with at least 8 kids dogpiled on him and laughing their heads off.
-Kristin leading a "train" of about 10 kids around the pool as "Come on Ride the Train" played.

And, last because it's oposite of least,

-When Ananda found a friend (the 8 year old Kenyan girl), loosened up, and got up on the dancefloor. They were actually BREAKING IT DOWN. And when the song ended and most of the adults wandered away, it was just the two of them left there as the next song started (while a crowd watched) and she never faltered.

I'm so glad it went the way it did. We were late leaving home, got lost on the way (even though it's the THIRD TIME I've been there), and as soon as we walked in Jake pooped in his diaper and Isaac peed in his clothes *facepalm* But we changed Jake, and put his shorts on Isaac, and proceeded to have about 3 hours of fun. I think my kids had an edge up on some of the others because they normally stay up late (we were there from quarter to 9 til around midnight).

Mindy and the twins' joint birthday party was today, too, in the afternoon, but it was a complete and total drag by comparison. Mindy doesn't really have any friends left, and apparently the girls don't have friends either? People say homeschooled kids lack socialization, geez. Anyway it was just a lot of random neighbors they went around inviting, nobody knowing each other or having anything in common - Teresa actually said, "I don't know who most of these kids are..." at one point. And lots of burnt hamburgers and an awkward moment when Mindy threw Greg (her enstranged husband, who's also recently just gotten out of jail) out for cussing at a kid? At least mine were all nowhere near there at the time :x I swear the girls got 85% Bratz for presents, and their room is already completely Bratz-ified. Ugh.

Ok. I have to go cook our super late dinner. I've had a great evening with Grant since we've been home from Teresa's and we just kept putting it off.

Unrelated ending sidenote: I am completely tansfixed by my Abnormal Psych textbook. I am burning through it every time I have a spare SECOND and could talk about everything I read for hours on end. It's going to be a such a dissapointment to get back to core classes again, next semester.
