What you may not understand is that information like that is really sensitive and is best delivered by mom herself, and it's likely she WANTED to be the one to tell people instead of having her ex come in and start noting people individually. If it was me, I'd be royally pissed at you right now.
So, all I'm wondering is if she gave you permission to give that particular update or if you just took it upon yourself to tell everyone?...
