Dan Savage on This American Life's "Return to the Scene of the Crime," discussing his lapsed Catholicism - particularly in light of his mother's death.

As much as I can...leading my completely different life...I think I know just how he feels.

Well, gosh, I cried all the way through that. Miriam was worried about me!

I've been in St. James many times, and my aunt and uncle were married there. It's a beautiful place.

My parents were married at St. James. It is beautiful.

I've been there quite a few times.

The last time I was there was a few years ago on All Soul's Day for the Requiem Mass. They did Mozart's Requiem.

I was raised Catholic, but am now an athiest. But I occasionally go into a Cathedral and find it oddly comforting in a non-religious way. When I was in Paris in Notre-Dame, i even lit candles. I went to the Vatican this summer, and didn't even get struck down by lightning ;)

PS, I've use to listen to Dan Savage in the mid-90's ago on his first radio show Savage Love Live in Seattle. And I've read his column that started in the local Seattle weekly paper for many years. I've always been a fan.
