Gorgeous Curls

Elise is so beautiful. Her hair is magic. She LOVES getting her hair brushed, which is this whole new thing for me as Ananda has always hated having her hair brushed to a degree that alternately resulted in restraining or something like dreadlocks, when she was 3. Elise's is also getting really long, which is sort of dumbfounding - this thick, curly, long, shiny hair on her tiny 3 year old self. I brushed it for about 15 minutes just for fun. It's several inches longer when wet and pulled out straight. It curls a few inches shorter within half an hour of brushing.

(cinnamon sugar toast mouth)
Ananda: Elise, can I braid your hair?
Elise: No me know, "braid hair".
Ananda: It's a kind of style...it's fancy.
Elise: Ok!

It hadn't even occured to me that her hair could be braided yet. Evidently it's possible. I am so inept at hair styling - Ananda, in addition to not wanting hers touched at all, has also hacked it into a chin length bob every few years. Which suits her in a way I could never pull off and is cool in it's own way - but I feel really awkward and just end up shrugging when we're out somewhere and I see mothers with little girls in perfectly smooth ponytails and french braids that obviously involve product and things like that. Elise's hair tends to be either in her eyes, in her mouth, or both, when she's been playing, and now she even has this stupid little piece Jake cut that hangs over her forehead separate from the rest.

Date: 2010-08-25 12:42 am (UTC)I think Elise's braid is very pretty, but I prefer the tumbled curls that she usually has. If you'd like to learn, though, French braiding really isn't hard.
