Anne Rice ----- My whole problem with Christianity stems from very personal experiences with hypocrites who call themselves Christian, who claim to live by the teachings of the Bible, but have never even read the Bible in its entirety. So many use the Bible to be "right" in an argument. I've read the Bible, I was married to a minister, and I think it's a nice story, but nothing more. I know a few people, you included, who I believe to be genuine in their beliefs, and who don't hate others who don't share the same religious beliefs. But largely, I think churches have been growing generation after generation of hypocrites. And all of my experience comes from southern bible-belt bullshit. Here's an example: If you and your family visited the Baptist Church in my hometown, by Monday morning, half the congregation,INCLUDING the minister, would have called child services on you because you homeschool your kids and breastfeed your toddler. Isn't that incredible bullshit???
I really don't know much about Catholicism, but the few people that I know that identify as Catholic, they seem to be always questioning what they are "supposed to" believe, i.e. birth control, confession, the whole Pope thing as supreme decision-maker (that's my interpretation).
The whole thing is such a personal decision, and why can't it just be that, instead of my having to deal with parents and children on the side of the road with signs that read "God hates abortion"...I think that's child abuse.
Sorry for the rant...hypocrisy makes my blood pressure go up.
