I actually think it's quite common to have non-Christians doing child care (as apposed to Sunday School) in churches, because Christians want to be in the worship service. Our church is struggling with having members leave the worship service. In college I tried to do a child care program for my campus minister's church and found that even though I wasn't regular attender of services, I hated that I now couldn't attend because I was working. That I could attend services on Sunday evening didn't matter to my 20 year old mind.
